Feathering adds extra fur or feathers around the legs, belly, chest, rump, or top of the creatures head. 

Fur: Some examples of feathering on fur would include the extra hair on the ends of the legs of certain dogs or horses. This fur can be extra long and cover the paws or hooves. This could also include features like extra fluffiness around the neck/chest area or flowing from the creature's haunches.

Feathers: Examples of feathering in feathers could be the specialized feather's found in birds like Wilson's bird of paradise, the greater racket-tailed drongo, or the superb lyrebird. It could also include something like the feather crest on the top of a cockatoo's head.
